Information request for companies / organisations in SKINN's area

We are currently in the middle of creating SKINN website with support from the council, which will go on-line next month. The website would be a resource for both residents & businesses in the area and would contain calendar of events, directory of companies & organisations working in the area (with information about them), news about things happening in the area & profiles on various people / places.

If your company is located in area below and you have not filled out an information request form, please fill a form below. There are two types: for companies & for not-for-profit organisations. Please fill out the one appropriate to you.

The information you provide will help us to build up an accurate picture of all the activities in the area. We will use this information in our research and will help other people in the area to know about the services/products available.

Thank you for your assistance!

River Common Project

For the last couple of weeks SKINN has been following the progress of Master in Architecture & Urban design student at Sheffield School of Architecture.

The students have carried our a three-week project involving a portion of river Don from Kelham Island to Hillsborough.

The brief was:
"to propose interventions, programmes and strategies that take
advantage of existing initiatives around Sheffield rivers, with a particular focus on a
specific stretch of the River Don. Through cross-programming, setting up
collaborations amongst initiatives and connecting them through a network, you will
propose interventions that maximise the efforts of single initiatives to improve the
access and environment and vitality of areas along the river."

More detailed description of the project can be found HERE
Project can also be followed @RiverCommons

Some great ideas and schemes have came out including an outline for a community website promoting DIY recycling, re-use of abandoned factories, various public spaces along the bank of the river, fishing platforms, area marathons, etc.

In the new year we shall be seeing the projects presented in SKIN area along with presentations by various organisations & much more. So watch this space!

First SKINN meeting

Work is currently underway to create a formal network between businesses and organisations in Shalesmoor, Kelham Island and Neepsend (SKINN) to unite individual organisations and generate positive bottom-up development of the area. The network would provide a framework for participants to share resources and information, organise events as well as a public interface to promote activities, share news and generally attract people to the area.

We are holding an introductory event next Thursday night (6th October) at CADS to show a little bit more about the practical details of SKINN, to have an informal discussion and a just find out more about the people working and living in the area, their vision for the area and desire to get involved with its future in a wider perspective.

The timings for the event are as follow:

17:30                   Start
18:00 – 18:45     Presentation and discussion about SKINN
                           (refreshments provided)
18:45 – 20          Music + Informal discussion

Opportunity for further discussion at Riverside afterwards.

Entrance at CADS (Snow Lane). Free parking is available in front of CADS’ Smithfield entrance on the other side of the building.
